For thousands of seniors and retirees in Canada, the June Old Age Security Payment serves as an essential income support. This is administered and managed by Service Canada. Old Age Security (OAS) is a monthly, taxable pension funded using the general federal tax revenues. Unlike CPP, OAS eligibility relies on Canadian residency rather than payroll contribution history.
The June Old Age Security Payment holds an important position in the annual benefit calendar among all the benefits. It is like a lifeline for Canadian seniors and retirees. As the final disbursement of the April-June quarter OAS payment, it represents the last monthly payment determined based on the prior benefit cycle before Service Canada reviews the baseline rates and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) entitlements in July.

OAS Payout Amounts for the April-June Quarter
Service Canada determines and adjusts OAS payment rates four times per year. This is done based on the increase in changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). If the cost of living increases, payments rise. But it is not vice versa. If the CPI contracts, payment rates remain the same at current levels. For the quarter covering the June Old Age Security Payment, the maximum monthly baseline rates were:
| Age Category | Maximum Monthly Payout | Maximum Annual Income Threshold |
| Seniors Aged 65 to 74 | $743.05 | Net world income under $148,451 |
| Seniors Aged 75 and Older | $817.36 | Net world income under $154,196 |
OAS 10% Senior Top-Up Rule
In July 2022, the federal government applied a permanent 10% increase to the baseline old age pension for recipients aged 75 and older. When a senior turns 75, the CRA applies auto-enhancement starting the month immediately following their 75th birthday.
Factors Determining Your Monthly OAS Calculation
Receiving the maximum June Old Age Security Payment requires meeting specific residency and income criteria.
Full vs. Partial Pension or 40-Year Rule
| Residency Requirement | OAS Pension |
| 40+ years | Full OAS pension (100% of maximum rate) |
| 10–39 years | Partial pension (1/40 of full rate for each year of residence) |
| 20+ years (Living Outside Canada) | Eligible to receive OAS payments while residing abroad |
The OAS Recovery Tax or Clawback Rule
High-income earner seniors have to repay recovery tax (OAS clawback). If your net world income crosses the annual threshold, you must pay back 15% of every dollar earned above that limit.
- July 2025-June 2026 Threshold: The OAS clawback threshold for the period governing the June Old Age Security Payment was $90,997 (2024 tax filings).
- July 2026-June 2027 Threshold: Starting with the July 2026 payment cycle, the clawback threshold increases to $93,454 (evaluated against 2025 net world income).
| Net Income | OAS Outcome |
| Below $90,997 | 100% OAS benefit paid (No clawback deduction) |
| Above $90,997 | 15% OAS recovery tax (clawback) deducted from monthly pension |
Maximizing Payouts of OAS: The 36% Deferral Strategy
It is hardly required that you start collecting OAS when you turn 65. Service Canada allows eligible seniors to defer the start of their pension for up to 60 months (until age 70). For every month you delay past your 65th birthday, your pension payment increases permanently by 0.6%. During the period you choose to defer your OAS pension, you cannot receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). Your spouse can not receive receive the Allowance.
Delayed or Stopped June OAS Payments

- Check Tax Filing Status: Service Canada depends on annual tax return processing to verify income for supplementary benefits. Unfiled tax returns can cause held benefits during annual recalculation cycles.

How do I make adjustments to more accurately reflect places I’ve worked forgotten during a period of malaise confined to bed after an application was sent to my home address thus left-out from my employment record? I’ve inquired with personnel at Services Canada hubs but staff say they’re unfamiliar with how to go about it_
