Detailed Retrofit Grant Information

Home Insulation Grants

$210 to $5,000

Eligible areas include attic, cathedral ceiling, flat roof, exterior wall, exposed floor, basement, and crawl space insulation. Grants are pro-rated based on the percentage of area insulated and insulation level achieved .

Attic Insulation

  • Maximum grant: $1,800 for full attic insulation to R-50
  • Pro-rated based on percentage of total roof assembly insulated

Exterior Wall Insulation

  • Grants from $660 to $5,000 depending on insulation level and percentage of wall area
  • 20% minimum wall area required for eligibility
  • Semi-detached and row houses receive reduced grants (75% for end units, 50% for middle units)

Basement Insulation

  • Header insulation: $240 (80% minimum coverage, R-20 minimum)
  • Slab insulation: $400 (50% minimum coverage, R-3.5 minimum)
  • Wall insulation: $210 to $1,500 based on insulation level and percentage

Crawl Space Insulation

  • $1,040 to $1,300 for wall insulation
  • $800 for ceiling insulation (continuous insulation approach)

Air Sealing Grants

$550 to $1,000

  • $550 for meeting target in Renovation Upgrade Report

Space and Water Heating Grants

Ground Source Heat Pumps

  • $5,000 for full system installation (indoor and outdoor components)
  • $3,000 for replacement of indoor unit only

Air Source Heat Pumps

  • $2,500 for ENERGY STAR ASHP or cold climate ASHP (2-head systems)
  • $4,000 for ENERGY STAR ASHP central or 3+ head systems
  • $5,000 for cold climate ASHP central or 3+ head systems
  • Must meet HSPF2, SEER2, and COP requirements

Heat Pump Water Heaters

  • $1,000 for replacement with ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heater

Renewable Energy Grants

$1,000 to $5,000

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems: $1,000 per kW installed, up to $5,000 maximum .

Resiliency Measures

$150 to $2,625

Must be combined with another energy efficiency retrofit. Grants available for measures protecting against environmental damage .

Ineligible Retrofits

The following retrofits were not eligible under the Canada Greener Homes Grant :

  • Retrofits done before a pre-retrofit evaluation
  • Retrofits done before December 1, 2020
  • Products installed in new home additions
  • Leased or rented equipment
  • Air conditioners (standalone)
  • Tankless or storage water heaters (except heat pump water heaters)
  • Skylights
  • Furnaces and boilers (except in northern/off-grid communities)
  • Roofs
  • Windows and doors in garages

EnerGuide Evaluation Grants

Homeowners could receive up to $600 toward the combined costs of pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. This required completing at least one eligible retrofit .

Provincial and Territorial Programs

Special program rules applied for residents of:
