FAQ
Does the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) affect my ODSP?
No. The CDB is fully exempt as income and does not affect your ODSP eligibility or payment amount. You receive the full CDB amount on top of your ODSP payment.
How much CDB can I receive?
As of July 2026, the CDB provides up to $204.20 per month for eligible low-income, working-age Canadians with disabilities.
Is the CDB deducted from ODSP like CPP-D?
No. Unlike CPP-D, which is deducted dollar-for-dollar, the CDB is fully exempt. You keep the entire CDB amount without any reduction to your ODSP.
When did the CDB exemption take effect?
Ontario announced the CDB exemption in May 2025, ahead of when CDB payments began in July 2025. The exemption is now in effect.
Do I need to report my CDB to ODSP?
You should report any changes in income to your caseworker, but the CDB itself will not reduce your ODSP payment.
What if I receive both CPP-D and CDB?
CPP-D is deducted dollar-for-dollar from ODSP, but CDB is fully exempt. You keep the full CDB amount regardless of CPP-D.
Is the CDB taxable?
The CDB is intended to be tax-exempt, though the federal government has not yet passed the legislative amendment to make this official. Currently, it is considered taxable income, but Ontario exempts it from social assistance calculations.
How do I apply for the CDB?
You must apply through the federal government. Eligibility is based on Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certification.
