BC Hydro offers 2 main residential electricity rate plans, Flat Rates Plans and Tired Rate Plan, and an optional Time-of-Day (TOD) Pricing plan for eligible customers. The right plan depends on your household's electricity consumption and lifestyle.
Tired Plan is Best for: Homes with average or less electricity usage. Example: apartments, condos, or homes using natural gas or other non-electric heating.
How it works: Electricity is billed at Tier 1 rate (lower rates) under a fixed usage limit. Electricity used above limits is billed at Tier 2 rate (Higher Rates).
Tier 1 Threshold: 22.1918 kWh per day of your billing period (approximately 675 kWh for 30-day bill period or 1,350 kWh for 60-day bill period).

Time-of-Day (TOD) Pricing is an optional (add-on) available with both the Residential "Tiered Rate plan" and "Flat Rate plan". It encourages customers who shift their much electricity usage to overnight hours while charging a premium during the busiest evening period. It can be especially beneficial for electric vehicle owners or households that can schedule appliances overnight.

Electricity consumed overnight receives a 5¢ per kWh credit, making it an ideal time for EV charging, laundry, water heating, and other high-energy activities.
5¢ per kWh Surcharge
Electricity used during peak evening demand is charged an additional 5¢ per kWh to encourage conservation when demand is highest.
Regular Pricing: Electricity used from 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. is billed at your normal residential Tiered or Flat Rate with no additional charge or discount.
Business BC Hydro electricity customers are billed under one of 3 General Service rate categories based on their annual peak demand and annual electricity consumption. Each category includes a daily basic charge and an energy charge, while medium and large businesses also pay demand charges.

Business Discounts: Customers metered at primary voltage receive a 1.5% discount on eligible charges. Businesses supplying their own transformation equipment may also qualify for a $0.25 per kW monthly demand discount. A power factor surcharge may apply if the monthly power factor falls below 90%.
BC Hydro offers optional electricity rates designed specifically for organizations operating electric vehicle fleets. These plans are available to eligible commercial customers with dedicated fleet charging infrastructure and sufficient electricity demand.
This temporary rate helps organizations transitioning to electric fleets that require daytime or en-route charging.

The BC Hydro Irrigation Rate is available for agricultural irrigation systems using electric motors of one horsepower (746 watts) or greater during the irrigation season.

Transmission rates apply to customers receiving high-voltage electricity service (60 kV or higher). These rates are generally used by industrial facilities and very large commercial operations.
Beginning April 1, 2026, the previous stepped transmission rate (RS 1823) was discontinued. Eligible customers are now billed under updated Rate Schedule 1830 or other approved transmission tariffs.
BC Hydro offers specialized electricity pricing programs that encourage industries to switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity and support the development of new low-carbon industries.
