❓ FAQ
What is the BC Family Benefit (BCFB)? β–Ό
The BCFB is a tax-free monthly payment to families with children under 18. It's a provincial benefit funded by the BC government and combined with the federal Canada Child Benefit (CCB) into a single monthly payment.
How much is the BCFB in 2026–2027? β–Ό
For July 2026 to June 2027: $145.83/month for the first child (two-parent family), $41.66/month for the first child in a single parent family, $91.66/month for the second child, and $75/month for each additional child.
At what income does the BCFB start reducing? β–Ό
The BCFB reduces when your adjusted family net income exceeds $30,176.
What is the "floor protection" in the middle income tier? β–Ό
Between $30,176 and $96,562 in income, the BCFB has a minimum floor. Even if the 4% reduction would bring your benefit below the floor, you still receive the floor amount: First child: $64.58/month, Second child: $62.50/month, Each additional: $60.41/month.
What happens above $96,562 in income? β–Ό
Above $96,562, the floor protection no longer applies. Your BCFB continues to reduce by 4% of income over $30,176 until it reaches $0.
Do I need to apply for the BCFB? β–Ό
No. You do not need to apply separately. The CRA automatically determines your eligibility based on your CCB application and your tax return. Just file your taxes every year.
When are BCFB payments made? β–Ό
BCFB payments are combined with CCB and made monthly, typically on the 20th of each month.
Is the BCFB taxable? β–Ό
No, the BCFB is a non-taxable benefit. You do not need to report it on your tax return.
What's the difference in the first child amount for single parents? β–Ό
Single parent families receive $41.66/month for the first child, compared to $145.83/month for two-parent families. The second and additional child amounts are the same regardless of marital status.
What if my income changes? β–Ό
The BCFB is recalculated every July based on your previous year's AFNI. A change in income in 2025 affects payments starting July 2026.
