❓ FAQ
What is the New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit (NBCTB)? β–Ό
The NBCTB is a tax-free monthly payment to qualifying New Brunswick families with children under 18. It's combined with the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) into a single monthly payment.
How much is the NBCTB in 2026? β–Ό
The basic benefit is $20.83 per child per month. There's also an NBWIS (working income supplement) of up to $20.83 per family per month for families with earned income over $3,750.
What is the NBWIS? β–Ό
The New Brunswick Working Income Supplement (NBWIS) is an additional benefit for families with earned income. It phases in once family earned income exceeds $3,750 and reaches its maximum of $20.83/month at $10,000 in earned income.
What is the NBSS? β–Ό
The New Brunswick School Supplement (NBSS) is a one-time yearly payment of $100 per eligible child paid in July to help low-income families with back-to-school costs. For the July 2026 payment, your child must be born between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2021 and your AFNI must be $20,000 or less.
At what income does the NBCTB reduce? β–Ό

Do I need to apply for the NBCTB? β–Ό
No. You do not need to apply separately. The CRA automatically determines your eligibility based on your CCB application and your tax return. Just file your taxes every year.
When are NBCTB payments made? β–Ό
NBCTB payments are combined with CCB and made monthly, typically on the 20th of each month. NBSS is paid in July only.
Is the NBCTB taxable? β–Ό
No, the NBCTB is a non-taxable benefit. You do not need to report it on your tax return.
What if I don't have earned income? β–Ό
You can still receive the basic NBCTB if your income is below the phase-out threshold. However, the NBWIS requires earned income over $3,750 β€” with no earned income, you only receive the basic benefit.
What if I move to or from New Brunswick? β–Ό
If you move to NB, you become eligible in the month after you become a resident. If you move out of NB, you may have to return some amounts received for months you were not living in the province.
