❓ FAQ
How does my housing situation affect OTB? β–Ό
Your housing costs (rent or property tax) are a major factor in calculating the OEPTC. For renters, 20% of annual rent is used as the property tax equivalent.
What is the NOEC and who qualifies? β–Ό
The Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC) helps Northern Ontarians with higher energy costs. It's available to residents of 10 specific districts: Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Timiskaming.
What is the OEPTC maximum for long-term care residents? β–Ό
If you live in a public long-term care home or on a reserve, the maximum OEPTC is $290 for the 2026 benefit year.
Can students claim OTB? β–Ό
Students living in a designated college, university, or private school residence can claim the OEPTC, with a maximum of $25 for the time spent in residence.
When are OTB payments made? β–Ό
Payments are made monthly on the 10th of each month. If your total OTB is $500 or less, you receive a single lump-sum payment in July.
