What is the GIS for couples?
The GIS is a monthly, tax-free payment for low-income OAS pensioners. For couples, the amount depends on your combined income and your spouse's OAS status.
How much can a couple receive from GIS?
For 2026, the maximum monthly GIS per person is $676.09 if your spouse receives full OAS, and up to $1,123.17 if your spouse does not receive OAS or the Allowance.
How is GIS calculated for couples?
For couples where both receive OAS, the maximum benefit is reduced by $1 for every $4 of combined monthly income (excluding OAS). Each spouse receives their own GIS payment.
What is the combined income threshold for couples?
For 2026: $30,096 (spouse receives full OAS), $42,144 (spouse receives Allowance), or $54,624 (spouse does not receive OAS or Allowance).
What income counts against GIS for couples?
Combined CPP/QPP, pensions, RRSP withdrawals, investment income, rental income, employment income (after exemption), EI, workers' compensation, and alimony all count.
What income does NOT count against GIS?
